How cuteness has taken over our world — and why — is a subject being explored in “Cute,” a new (and the first ever) exhibition devoted to the movement at London’s Somerset House. The Industrial Revolution and the rise of mass production allowed cuteness to be unleashed on the world — toys, books and illustrations could, increasingly, be made easily and cheaply. The exhibition — a world first — examines the enduring appeal of the cute aesthetic amongst adults and asks deeper questions about its allure. For Simon May, a professor of philosophy at King’s College London and author of “The Power of Cute,” kawaii is just part of a story which involves the country of Japan more broadly. The Edwardian artist is credited with increasing the cute appeal of our feline friends by giving them human hobbies and pastimes.

Metropolitan Police/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Sept 22 (Reuters) - A British businessman at the centre of a money-laundering investigation was jailed on Friday for more than eight years for targeting two lawyers with fake bombs in the heart of London's legal district. Prosecutors said Nuttall orchestrated the plot with his driver Michael Sode, 59, and former soldier Michael Broddle, 47, who planted devices which were designed to look like genuine explosives. Broddle had previously conducted a six-month surveillance operation against Sutcliffe, Jeavons and their families, she said. Nuttall and Sode were both convicted of two counts of conspiracy to plant the devices and conspiracy to transfer criminal property, relating to payments made to Broddle. Broddle had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to plant the devices and two counts of possession of an explosive substance.

Dinton Castle is popular with Chinese tourists and those interested in its 'haunted' history. John Carver, Dinton Castle/InsiderDinton Castle has captured the attention of Chinese tourists, who are excited by the opportunity to stay in an authentic English castle, Carver said. According to local folklore, Dinton Castle is haunted by John Bigg, known as the "Dinton Hermit," who lived underground on the estate until his passing in 1696. But aside from Chinese tourists and supernaturalists, Carver said that Dinton Castle has an appeal for everyone. "It's so unique, and it's not a Windsor Castle," he said.
